BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent sends emotional message to Dan Walker after horror accident

BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent shared a sweet get-well message to former co-host Dan Walker after his “scary” bike accident.

The BBC anchor, 51, referred to “our Dan” during a segment on the newsreader, who yesterday told how he was “lucky to be alive” after a nasty crash left his face covered in blood.

Dan, 45, later gave a health update as he returned home with, thankfully, no broken bones.

As Sally and BBC Breakfast colleague Jon Kay, 53, got stuck into the show, images of their former co-presenter flashed up.

She said: “Here’s a familiar face everyone, Dan Walker, our Dan was injured after he was in a collision with a car while cycling yesterday.”

Jon then mused: “Sounds like he was out cold for 20 minutes or so.”

Sally, commenting on how Channel 5 newsreader Dan was knocked off by a car, added: “Yeah, really scary.”

Jon then wrapped up the chat and said: “Get well soon Dan.”

On Monday, Dan said that his life had been saved by the bike helmet he was wearing when he was hit.

In his update on Twitter, the broadcaster said: “Just got home from hospital. Battered and bruised but – amazingly – nothing broken.

“Very thankful to still be here. I have no memory of anything and just remember coming round on the tarmac with paramedics and police around me.”

He added: “The helmet I was wearing saved my life today so – if you’re on a bike – get one on your head.

“Smashed my watch & phone, ruined my trousers, my bike is a mess but I’m still here.

“Currently eating soup through a straw and being looked after by this gorgeous, tired nurse.”

The presenter also posted a selfie of his bruised and bloodied face, as well as pics of his smashed watch and ripped trousers.

In another selfie, he posted alongside one of the NHS nurses caring for him.

Dan earlier said he was travelling on his bike when he was hit by a car.

The journalist left the BBC in May after six years for a new role at Channel 5.

Before leaving, he helped cover the 2010 Fifa World Cup, the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In 2021, Dan narrowly missed out on the semi-final of Strictly Come Dancing.
