I’ve got a unique name and everyone always tells me that it’s really ugly – I’m so insecure about it
A YOUNG woman has revealed that she has a unique name – and that she’s painfully insecure about it.
Opening up about her situation, the woman took to Reddit to reveal that she doesn’t like her moniker.
She explained that people often tell her that her it’s ugly, leading her to question if it is indeed an unattractive name.
The name in question – Garnet.
She asked: “Is my name ugly?”
The Reddit user explained: “I’ve been told all the time that my name (Garnet) is ugly.
“It’s really uncommon and doesn’t sound like a name and it makes me feel insecure.”
She later noted: “I’m a girl btw.”
Reddit users were quick to flood the comments and share their support for the young woman.
One person said: “There’s nothing wrong with it.
“It’s uncommon, sure, but I wouldn’t say it was ugly.
“It’s the birthstone associated with January.”
Another added: “Garnet is a beautiful name.
“Try not to listen to other people’s negativity. But if you need a positive reminder of your name, I’d recommend getting a piece of garnet jewellery.
“Next time anyone asks about your name, tell them you were named for the precious gemstone and show them how pretty it is.”
A third commented: “This is one of the coolest names I think I’ve ever heard! Definitely not ugly! Really pretty actually.”
Someone else noted: “I don’t think it’s ugly, but it falls in the camp with blunter-sounding names that aren’t as popular as they used to be for girls (Greta comes to mind).
“If you don’t like it, Gem or Gemma would be a cute nickname that plays on the original!”
Meanwhile, another user posted: “I love Garnet for a girl. I think it’s uncommon and beautiful.
