An autopsy report released this month says a 9-year-old boy in the care of Arizona's child welfare agency was hospitalized twice for a life-threatening complication of diabetes before he died Dec. 26. Jakob Blodgett was placed with the Department of Child Safety on Dec. 9 after his father was arrested on suspicion of drug possession in eastern Arizona. The boy was diagnosed as a toddler with Type 1 diabetes, meaning his body couldn't produce enough insulin to survive. The autopsy report says Jakob's medical history included poorly controlled diabetes. The Department of Child Safety declined to comment.
