Authorities in Rhode Island are trying to figure out who put up “racist and hateful” signs at a popular state park. The state Department of Environmental Management said on social media on Thursday that the professional-looking signs were attached to trees with screws at Lincoln Woods park, but were quickly taken down. The signs looked similar to real state park signs. The agency's Division of Law Enforcement is investigating what is considered an act of vandalism. Democratic state Rep. Mary Ann Shallcross Smith, who lives in one of the few homes on park grounds and walks there every day, called the signs heartbreaking.
