NATIONAL SUMMARY
Dry conditions will continue over the Northeast, and heat
from the northern tier of the Midwest and New England will
expand southward as high pressure hovers just off the
Atlantic coast today. Clouds and spotty showers will linger
from southeastern Virginia to eastern Georgia. Meanwhile, a
disturbance from the Gulf of Mexico that could acquire
tropical characteristics will cause an uptick in downpours
and gusty thunderstorms in Florida. More thunderstorms will
erupt and become locally severe over parts of the Plains
states today. Some areas can be hit with high winds, large
hail and flash flooding. More spotty thunderstorms will
erupt over the interior West in the afternoon. Much of the
Pacific coast will be dry, but low clouds may linger in some
locations.
