Japan's Nikkei ends lower on weaker heavyweights

TOKYO, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index closed lower on Wednesday as weak performances by heavyweights slightly pulled down the market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 83.82 points, or 0.25 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 33,338.70.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, lost 0.34 points, or 0.01 percent, to finish at 2,306.03.
