The Ministry of Education, IIT Madras and the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Zanzibar-Tanzania, signed a memorandum of understanding for the first IIT campus to be established outside India. The campus will be located in Zanzibar and is set to launch programmes in October 2023. IIT Madras will develop the academic programs and curricula, while the government of Zanzibar-Tanzania will finance the project's capital and operating expenses.
