CPEC Transformed Pakistan’s Development Landscape: PM Sharif
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) played a decisive role in transforming the development landscape of the country with the launch of several multi-billion dollar projects.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of signing of CPEC, the prime minister stated the mega projects significantly helped Pakistan progress in the region and the world.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Chinese Charge d’Affaires Pang Chunxue participate the event.
With the completion of hundreds of projects under the umbrella of CPEC, including coal-fired power plants, the orange line mass transit project, and road infrastructure, the country ushered in a new development era, PM Sharif said in his remarks.
“On July 5, 2013, we witnessed the memorable signing ceremony of CPEC, where President Xi Jinping and PM Nawaz Sharif inked the milestone accord,” he said.
As of now, the Chinese government and companies made $25.4 billion in investment in multiple projects the prime minister said. Thousands of Chinese and Pakistanis worked tirelessly to create a history of commitment and exuberance of goodwill between the two sides.
The premier also expressed confidence that CPEC would make a big kickstart in various areas including agriculture, special economic zones, information technology, and exploration of mineral resources.
The prime minister thanked President Xi and the Chinese government for supporting Pakistan, especially when it awaited the staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
It is stated that the agreement would be given final approval during the IMF Board meeting on July 12, granting Pakistan a $3 billion loan to finance its creditors.
“At this very junction of time, fulfilling the IMF conditions which were earlier violated by the previous government is a top priority of the collation government,” PM Sharif said.
