Oil truck driver arrested for DUI in Colchester after testing six times above legal limit for commercial vehicle

An oil delivery truck driver was charged with DUI Wednesday in Colchester after reportedly testing six times above the legal limit to drive a commercial vehicle.

Joshua Blanchette, 35, of Lisbon was arrested by Connecticut State Police on charges of operating a commercial vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and second-degree reckless endangerment.

State police said they were called to the area of 220 Old Hebron Road at about 6:10 p.m. on the report of an intoxicated delivery driver. The driver’s employer was the one who contacted authorities, telling them he had the truck — which was carrying about 2,200 pounds of fuel oil — stopped and was waiting for police.

According to state police, Blanchette, who was identified as the driver, failed multiple field sobriety tests and was later found to have been about six times over the legal limit to drive a commercial vehicle in Connecticut, which is a blood alcohol content of 0.04.

Blanchette was released on a $10,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned in Norwich Superior Court on July 18.
