Man held on $1M bond in fatal Connecticut shooting

A man is being held in lieu of $1 million bail on a murder charge in connection with the shooting death of a victim in New Haven on July 7, police in that city said.

New Haven police said they learned of the July 7 shooting at about 12:30 p.m. when the New Haven Police Department received a 911 call from a person who was reporting a shooting incident.

Police said the caller reported that a person had been shot in their vehicle and was being taken to Yale New Haven Hospital. Patrol officers met the Acura MDX at the hospital’s emergency room entrance and secured the car as a crime scene, police said in a statement.

The victim, Sean Peterson, 49, succumbed to a “single gunshot wound to the left rib cage while receiving medical treatment in the ER,” police said in the statement. The New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division and the Bureau of Identification “responded to the scene and conducted a thorough investigation, which included interviews with witnesses,” police said.

The investigation found that William Brown, no age or town given, the driver of the vehicle, allegedly shot Peterson, police said. Brown was taken into custody on-site and charged with murder and firearms-related charges, police said. He was being held in lieu of $1 million bail, police said.

“This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Sean Peterson,” said New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson, also in the statement. “I commend our investigators for their thorough and diligent work in bringing the suspect responsible for this crime to justice.”
