Report: La Liga club believe they can sign Tottenham player on loan this summer

According to the print edition of Marca (15/07/23 – as relayed by Sport Witness), Barcelona believe they can sign Giovani Lo Celso on loan for the upcoming season.

Earlier his week, it was reported by AS (via Sport Witness) that Xavi Hernandez is keen on adding a creative midfielder to Barcelona’s squad after having missed out on re-signing Lionel Messi.

The report claimed that the Barca boss had identified Lo Celso and Bernardo Silva as potential alternatives, but the former was seen as a more ‘viable’ target than the latter, who was deemed too expensive.

This has now also been backed up by Marca, who state that following Ikay Gundogan’s move to the Camp Nou, Manchester City won’t simply let another one of their stars walk to the La Liga giants.

The Premier League champions have allegedly set Silva’s asking price at €80m (£68.7m), and have made it clear that they will not offer any discount.

As a result, it is explained that Barca are set to turn their attention to Lo Celso, with the Catalan club said to believe that they can sign the Tottenham man on a temporary deal.

Lo Celso has just two years left on his contract with Tottenham. So, If Postecoglou decides that the Argentine is not part of his plans, Spurs will want to offload him permanently this summer.

There is no reason for the North London club to consider loaning out the 27-year-old again.
