Mets Place Starling Marte on IL With Migraines

The New York Mets announced right as their game was starting vs. the White Sox that they were placing outfielder Starling Marte on the injured list with migraines. The move is retroactive to July 17. The Mets have not announced a corresponding move yet.

Mark Vientos and Ronny Mauricio, two options to replace Marte on the roster that are on the 40-man roster, are both in the lineup for Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.

Marte, 34, has dealt with a disappointing season in his second year with the team. He’s hitting only .254/.308/.332 with only 13 extra-base hits and 24 stolen bases. The veteran outfielder underwent double groin surgery during the offseason and recently mentioned that the area is still bothering him. “It’s affecting me more in my hitting,” Marte told the New York Daily News through translator Alan Suriel. “I can’t lie and say it’s affecting my running, because that’s not how I feel at the very moment, but at the same time, we’re working every day and we’re doing everything we need to do to make it better.”

Marte is in the second year of a four-year, $78 million deal the Mets gave him leading up to the 2022 season.
