Emmerdale star quits after just seven months – and his final scenes have already aired
AN EMMERDALE star has quit the ITV show after just seven months – and his final scenes have already aired.
Max Fletcher joined Emmerdale as Marshall Hamston back in January, and soon shared his struggles with his sexuality with Arthur (Alfie Clarke).
When his dad disowned him after learning he was gay, Marshall moved in with Laurel and Jai and got together with Arthur.
But viewers were shocked on Thursday night when Marshall revealed he was leaving the village to go and live with his aunt and cousin – and that he didn’t want to be with Arthur any more.
The teens had a heart to heart at the Woolpack, and Arthur was left devastated by the break up and Marshall’s imminent departure.
Later in the episode, Laurel and Jai came to say goodbye, with Marshall thanking them for taking him in and supporting him.
He then went over to Arthur and gave him a hug, telling him: “I’m really going to miss you.”
Marshall was then driven out of the village, and Emmerdale viewers were left feeling sad for Arthur, as well as actor Max’s exit as Marshall.
One wrote: “Marshall left the Dales tonight. Wonder if he’ll be back and how this will affect Arthur in the future.
“Lovely character. Wishing the actor who played him all the best! Very talented young performer.”
Another added: “Oh Arthur [heartbroken emojis] him and Marshall’s story is one of the best things #Emmerdale has done this year, it’s a real shame that it’s ended so suddenly and like this.”
A third tweeted: “Who else knew that Marshall and Arthur would end this way. It was too much, too soon and he was completely overwhelmed by it all.”
Emmerdale airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
