UCF upgrading lighting, connectivity at FBC Mortgage Stadium

UCF is upgrading FBC Mortgage Stadium with a new state-of-the-art lighting system and antenna pods to improve connectivity and Wi-Fi throughout the 45,000-seat venue.

The move comes as the Knights begin their first season in the Big 12 Conference.

The new system will enhance the in-game and television experience and allow UCF to use a Dynamic Scene Control System that would allow color and flickering lights. The number of light fixtures will increase by almost 50% with some added to the stadium’s exterior.

“Our fans will see an enhanced in-stadium experience and our broadcasts on ESPN and Fox networks will be championship quality based on the LED additions,” says UCF athletics director Terry Mohajir.

UCF has also begun adding MatSing lens antenna pods around the stadium, which will help distribute cellular signals. The antenna provides better service in high-density environments like stadiums and arenas and has been used at AT&T Stadium (Texas), Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas), Raymond James Stadium (Tampa) and Hard Rock Stadium (Miami).

Each pod will provide better coverage throughout the stadium and boost the Wi-Fi signal.

The upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of July.

UCF opens the football season by hosting Kent State on Aug. 31 with kickoff set for 7 p.m. on FS1.
