I have 200 houseplants – my homemade fungus gnat repellent uses three kitchen staples and shows results within an hour
A GREEN-THUMBED influencer has shared her homemade hack for repelling fungus gnats.
The content creator showed her followers how to make the simple garden-saving mixture.
In her video, TikTok user Jessie (@mrsjustjessie) demonstrated how to make her homemade fungus gnat traps.
“When you have over 200 houseplants, and it’s the summer, you will probably have fungus gnats flying around!” she wrote in the clip’s caption.
Jessie continued: “Don’t spend $30 on a ‘nightlight’ setup for them.
“Make your own cost-effective traps using things you probably already have around the house,” she said.
The TikToker recommended making several bowls of the mixture and placing them near plants throughout your home.
For the first step, Jessie mixed one tablespoon of salt, two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and five to six big drops of blue Dawn dish soap in each bowl.
Stir each of the mixtures until they turn into a cloudy blue color.
Next, the gardening enthusiast added half a cup of warm or hot water to each bowl.
For her final step, Jessie told viewers to set the mixture near houseplants.
The content creator showed her followers the solution after leaving it out for one hour.
Several dead gnats can be seen floating in each of the bowls.
Jessie gave her audience updates after another five hours, a couple of days, and finally a week.
