The Nation's Weather for Wednesday, August 23, 2023
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
A massive area of high pressure, or heat dome, will combine
high temperatures near 100 with high humidity levels to make
for dangerous conditions over much of the central United
States today. Severe thunderstorms will occur from southern
Michigan to western Maryland and West Virginia. The main
threats from the storms will be strong wind gusts and hail.
A batch of cool air with low humidity will remain in the
Northeast as hot and humid air is pushed out of the
Carolinas. Downpours from Tropical Rainstorm Harold will
extend northwestward across the Rio Grande Valley. Spotty
thunderstorms will extend from Arizona to Idaho and Montana
as much of the Pacific Coast states can expect sunshine. Dry
weather will continue to greet areas that were hit hard by
Hilary's torrential rain and flooding.
