Tropical Storm Lee has strengthened into a hurricane as it churns through the open waters of the Atlantic on a path that would take it near the northeast Caribbean. The storm was located about 1,130 miles (1,815 kilometers) east of the northern Leeward Islands and moving west-northwest at 14 miles per hour (22 kilometers per hour) on Wednesday. It had maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour (120 kilometers per hour). It's not forecast to make landfall but is projected to pass just northeast of the British Virgin Islands. Lee is expected to develop into a major hurricane on Saturday. In the Pacific, Jova strengthened into a Category 4 hurricane far off the southwest coast of Mexico.
