Israeli military raid kills 2 Palestinians in West Bank. Israel says its troops came under fire
Palestinian health officials say two Palestinians have been killed during an Israeli military raid in the northern West Bank. The raid occurred in the Nour Shams refugee camp early Sunday. Israel says it moved into the area to destroy a militant command center and bomb-storage center. It says troops opened fire after militants threw explosives and fired at them. Israel has been carrying out stepped-up military raids in the area in what it says is a campaign to root out Palestinian militants and thwart future attacks. But Palestinians say the raids entrench Israel’s 56-year occupation over the West Bank. The violence comes amid a sensitive period of Jewish holidays.
