_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
Clouds, rain and drizzle associated with Tropical Rainstorm
Ophelia will slowly retreat to the coasts of southern New
England and mid-Atlantic today. A belt of high pressure will
produce areas of sunshine from northern New England to the
interior Southeast. Pockets of drenching downpours will form
in Florida and along the Gulf coast. A storm from the Plains
will pivot eastward over the Midwest with showers and
locally severe thunderstorms, especially from eastern Iowa
to northern Kentucky. Much of the Great Plains and Southwest
will have dry weather. However, a pocket of thunderstorms,
some severe, will affect New Mexico and West Texas. A potent
storm is forecast to bring more rain and gusty winds to the
Northwest. Most of the rain will be centered inland over
Washington and Oregon.
