A Terrible Situation In Chicago Bears’ Secondary Just Got Worse

0

The Chicago Bears secondary was supposed to be the strength of the entire defense this season. That is where GM Ryan Poles invested many of his biggest resources in the draft over the past two years. Unfortunately, the team hasn’t gotten to see it at full strength most of the season. Cornerback Kyler Gordon remains on IR. Safety Eddie Jackson and cornerback Jaylon Johnson both missed Sunday’s game against Denver with foot and hamstring injuries. Both have since been declared out for Thursday night in Washington as well.

Well, the misery doesn’t end there. A new face popped up on the final injury report. Safety Jaquan Brisker apparently suffered a hamstring tweak during practice this week. He was limited in practice and is now questionable for the game.

It’s starting to make sense why the Bears added veteran safety Duron Harmon this week. Many thought it was a simple depth move. It turns out the former three-time Super Bowl champ might see the field immediately if Brisker can’t go. Otherwise, they will face a newly-healthy Commanders receiving corps with highly inexperienced safeties Elijah Hicks and Quindell Johnson.

The Chicago Bears are falling apart in every way.

They’re 0-4 and coming off the most dispiriting loss of the season. They led the Denver Broncos 28-7 at one point. Giving that away to lose 31-28 left many in the locker room speechless. Chicago has now lost 14 games in a row, the longest streak in franchise history. Their defense was already bad when the unit was mostly healthy. Now, there is a good chance they will be down four starters against an opponent that has scored 30 or more points in two of their past three games.

Combine that with a non-existent pass rush, and you have the makings for another potential blowout loss on national television. That would make 15 games in a row. If thing goes as expected, it will also make for the 15th straight game where they’ve allowed 25 or more points on defense. Another franchise record. Chicago Bears fans have experienced misery many times in the past 20 years. This could be argued as the greatest low the organization has ever experienced.
