Chicago Bears Choose Wisely With Their New Wide Receivers Coach
The Chicago Bears found another critical piece for their new offensive coaching staff. Their trend of pinpointing guys with proven experience continues. They have found a new wide receivers coach. It will be Chris Beatty, who most recently held the same position for the past three seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. He oversaw successful seasons from Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, and Josh Palmer, among others. However, his most notable connection happens to be a young man named D.J. Moore. Beatty helped develop the eventual star at the University of Maryland. Now they’ll be reunited, according to Courtney Cronin of ESPN.
Beatty fits the profile head coach Matt Eberflus seemed to go for with his search. He wanted experienced coaches who have a strong track record of being able to teach young players. Beatty spent most of his career in the college ranks, recruiting and molding young kids into productive pass targets. Moore wasn’t his only success story by any means. He also helped others like Jordan Matthews and Jordan Addison become standout college stars. Both became immediate weapons once they got to the NFL. His biggest success story may have been Percy Harvin, whom he molded into a high school phenom at Landstown before he embarked on a career that saw him become a 1st round pick and eventual Super Bowl champion.
The Chicago Bears are sticking with a clear vision.
Often, the sign of a good coach is when he has a steady track record of success everywhere he goes. That was the case with Beatty. His college exploits were consistent at several stops. Matthews at Vanderbilt. Tavon Austin at West Virginia. Moore at Maryland. Addison at Pitt. Now, he will oversee the development of Tyler Scott and likely another addition this coming off-season. It would be a surprise if the Bears don’t take somebody early in the 2024 draft, maybe even in the 1st round.
Having Beatty’s sharp eye for talent can’t be understated. His voice will be valuable in that building once the evaluations get serious in the next two months. The Senior Bowl starts in a few days. His hiring is a timely one for the Chicago Bears. He will be able to join them down in Mobile, adding his vast experience and expertise to the equation. It is hard not to feel like this is a solid hire for the organization. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron needs somebody keen on details. He loves to utilize wide receivers heavily in his pass-first scheme.
Beatty is qualified for that job.
