Book Review: Elizabeth Brooks' Austen-esque WWII novel has romance, betrayal and a touch of macabre

0
In a chance meeting in 1934, Nina invites the Nicholsons to dinner. She’s 14, trying on womanhood for the first time, and quickly becomes smitten with Guy Nicholson. On the other hand, his wife, Kate, is fascinated by Nina's widower father. “The Woman in the Sable Coat” flips between Nina and Kate, set in England and backlit by World War II. Donna Edwards of the Associated Press describes the novel as a Jane Austen-esque story of betrayal and unlikely friendships that blends war fiction with idyllic romance drama and a touch of macabre thriller. It's scheduled for release on Tuesday from Tin House Books.
