New York City fire officials believe a smoke inhalation drug may have saved the life of a firefighter who fell unconscious while battling a house blaze. The firefighter collapsed inside a burning house in the Bronx on Friday afternoon after reporting he was having trouble breathing. Officials say emergency medical workers performed CPR and administered the drug hydroxocobalamin, which combats cyanide poisoning that can result from smoke inhalation. The firefighter was in stable condition in a hospital. Two other firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
