The European Union's foreign policy chief says the EU is considering whether to cut funds to Georgia over its new “foreign agents” law. Critics say the measure will curb media freedom and could undermine the country’s quest for EU membership. Josep Borrell also says the EU is considering whether to downgrade political ties with Georgia's government. The measure in Georgia was signed into law earlier this month. It requires media and nonprofit groups to register as “pursuing the interests of a foreign power” if they receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad. Critics say it echoes legislation in neighboring Russia.
