NATIONAL SUMMARY

Thunderstorms can bring flooding downpours, hail, damaging

wind gusts and an isolated tornado to southeastern South

Dakota, eastern Nebraska, northeastern Kansas, northwestern

Missouri and far southwestern Minnesota today. Flash

flooding and localized damaging wind gusts will accompany

storms from eastern New York, Vermont and New Hampshire

southward to central North Carolina and western South

Carolina. Meanwhile, preparations should be completed in

South Texas as Hurricane Beryl approaches. Elsewhere along

the Gulf coast, Beryl will produce unusually rough surf and

rip currents. In the West, extreme heat will continue, and

some locations may approach all-time record high

temperatures. Spotty afternoon thunderstorms will pepper the

northern Rockies.
