New York City police say that a man who approached officers to say that his cousin had assaulted him then led them to an a possibly real pipe bomb. The chain of events began when a car rolled up to a Harlem stationhouse near noon Wednesday with two men inside. Officials said at a news conference that the driver told officers that the passenger, his cousin, had hit him on the head with a machete. The driver later told them about the device in the car. Police are working to determine whether it was actually functional. They say the suspect made rambling remarks to officers and doesn’t appear to have had a target for the possible explosive.
