Police have searched New York City’s largest asylum-seeker shelter for hours. They say they are looking for any “dangerous contraband” among the 3,000 residents. Many waited outside on a sweltering summer Friday. One resident says police arrived with dogs, though he isn't sure what the animals were brought to sniff for. Police Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry says in a social media post that the aim was to remove what he describes as “any dangerous contraband.” The police department hasn't answered follow-up questions about the duration of the search, what it entailed or the impetus for it. Advocates for the migrants are decrying the search.
