Midweek preview: Bassett aim for Highworth hat-trick
Historically Highworth Town's Save on Tyres Stadium has been an unhappy hunting ground for Royal Wootton Bassett Town. But when Sam Collier's side make the short trip to take on their rivals on Wednesday, they'll be looking for a third straight win away at the Worthians. Bassett's two most recent visits both resulted in victory: the first a triumph on penalties in the Wiltshire Premier Shield, the second - and most famously - a 1-0 Hellenic League Premier Division playoff semi final win secured courtesy of Ollie Case's first half header. Those games were both knockout fixtures. Now, as the teams meet for the first time in 2024-25, Collier and his team go in search of league points - something Bassett have admittedly struggled to take from games against the Worthians. Highworth claimed maximum points from their regular season games against Bassett last season, including a 1-0 win on home territory back in August 2023. And in all the Worthians are unbeaten in their last eight league encounters with Bassett, losing just twice in fourteen Hellenic League Premier Division fixtures dating back to the 2010-11 campaign.
