NATIONAL SUMMARY
As Helene pushes quickly inland over the Southeast states
today, widespread heavy rain and high winds will occur. The
conditions will lead to major flash flooding and extensive
damage to trees and power lines from Florida to southern
Virginia and West Virginia with Georgia and the Carolinas
bearing the brunt away from where the hurricane made its
landfall from last night. Locally heavy rain will dampen
areas from Tennessee and Kentucky to Missouri and Arkansas.
Spotty showers can occur as far northeast as southern parts
of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Elsewhere, thunderstorms
will rumble through central and South Florida. Spotty
showers will dampen the Washington Cascades and parts of
northwestern Oregon during the morning hours. Record heat
will continue in portions of the Desert Southwest.
