Lauren Boebert: The MAGA Flamethrower Just Won't Go Away

0

The 2024 election is reaching a fever pitch. Within less than two weeks of America's decision, the national conversation has consolidated around two figures: Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. The figures who usually feature somewhat prominently in the national conversation, people like Chuck Schumer, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Marjorie Taylor Greene, have all been pushed to the periphery as the mainstream media and the general public alike home in with laser focus on the two presidential candidates. Representative Lauren Boebert is in the same category.

Usually prominent, but today, peripheral thanks to the presidential election.

Today, for the “secondary” players of the national political scene to get some coverage, it seems that person needs to go through one of the presidential candidates to do so. Consider some of Boebert’s latest headlines: ‘Lauren Boebert slams Harris and Biden for protecting ‘ugly’ animal.’

Classic Lauren Boebert Fire-Throwing

It’s classic Lauren Boebert – a touch of outlandishness – but filtered through the Kamala Harris prism that the media nearly seems to require at the moment.

“Boebert blasted the Biden-Harris administration for its plans to protect an “ugly” animal in her home state,” The Independent reported. “The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced that it planned to conserve public lands in Colorado in an effort to protect the Gunnison sage-grouse, a bird designed as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act.”

As Boebert told Newsweek: “The Biden-Harris Administration and the radical progressives in charge of BLM are attempting to lock up our public lands from critical uses like oil & gas exploration. Instead of putting Coloradans first, they’re continuing to bend the knee to Green New Deal worshippers who want to destroy Colorado’s oil & gas industry and the tens of thousands of good-paying jobs that support families across the state.”

The quote is vintage Boebert in its vehement hostility towards top Democrats. If nothing else at least Boebert is consistent. Although, there is a slight problem with her criticism of the Biden-Harris decision to “lock up public lands” – the announcement was approved in 2020, when Donald Trump was still president.

Lauren Boebert: Soon Out of Congress?

Lauren Boebert joined Congress in 2021 but barely won reelection in 2022; Democrat businessman Adam Frisch gave Boebert a legitimate scare, falling just 500 votes short of ousting the incumbent. Now, likely to avoid the viability of Frisch or another Democrat, Boebert has moved from the 3rd Congressional District to the 4th, which should be more reliably conservative.

“My family and I are living in northern Colorado, and it’s been amazing, the city we moved to. They’ve all been so welcoming to us,” Boebert said.

The 4th Congressional District should be an easier win for Boebert; the 4th is Colorado’s most conservative district, after all. Boebert knew what she was doing when she relocated.

For now, Harris and Trump are dominating the news cycle. But if Boebert wins reelection, which seems likely but some Democrats are hoping for an upset, and the media attention diffuses once again throughout national politics, expect Boebert to be making some more headlines in the near future.
