Former White Sox DH Named Orioles Hitting Coach

0

The Baltimore Orioles have a new hitting coach and his name may be familiar to White Sox fans. According to MASN’s Roch Kubatko Cody Asche is expected to be named the Orioles hitting coach.

The move comes after the club parted ways with its former hitting coaches Ryan Fuller and Matt Borgschulte. On Tuesday the White Sox reportedly hired Fuller to be their new director of hitting.

Asche played five years in the MLB, the bulk of which came in Philadelphia between 2013-16. Former White Sox general manager Rick Hahn signed Asche to a $535,000 minor-league deal after the Phillies designated him for assignment following the 2016 season. Asche cracked the White Sox active roster and got the Opening Day start as the team’s designated hitter.

The former Nebraska Cornhusker only appeared in 19 games with the White Sox, slashing .105/.177.175 with one home run and four RBIs. His final major league at-bat came on May 12, 2017, in a 6-3 loss to the Padres. The White Sox would go on to lose 95 games that season.
