Weekend preview: Women aim to bounce back against Olveston
Royal Wootton Bassett Town host SGS Olveston United in their final South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North fixture of 2024 on Sunday (2pm kick off). And after a frustrating draw away at bottom side Downend Flyers last week, Bassett will be aiming to get back to winning ways as they return to the Sustain Stadium. Sunday's game will be the first competitive meeting between Bassett and Olveston. Olveston currently sit in ninth place, though have been draw specialists, with four of their nine league games so far finishing all square. There's home action for the Development team this weekend too as they welcome still undefeated Wiltshire League Premier Division leaders Kintbury Rangers on Saturday (Sustain Stadium, 2pm). The teams met just a fortnight ago with Bassett earning an impressive draw after falling behind thanks to a Mani Mesas goal. And Mark Simpkins' team will be looking for more of the same this Saturday as they aim to become the first team to get one over Rangers in the league this season. Admission for both home games this weekend is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members. Meanwhile, on Saturday the Men's First Team are due to travel to the Forest of Dean to take on the Hellenic League Premier Division's second from bottom side Lydney Town (3pm kick off). Bassett were convincing 4-1 winners against Lydney when the teams met at the Sustain Stadium in September. Lydney are now under new management though - with Lee Smith, a former teammate of Bassett boss Sam Collier when both played at Cirencester Town together, now in charge.
