Monthly Check-In: Which Blackhawks Prospects Are Closest To The NHL?

0

As trade rumors begin to ramp up with 2024 winding down, things are certainly heating up in the NHL world. That includes the Blackhawks, whose roster will inevitably be changed one way or another over the next few months before the trade deadline.

With plenty of roster adjustments on the way, we could see as many as three Blackhawks prospects being moved to the NHL soon. They’ll likely get some looks in the United Center at the end of the season since Chicago isn’t exactly a playoff contender, but these players are polished enough that they could get plenty of games at the next level this season.

Frank Nazar

This one’s a no-brainer – Nazar is showing on a nightly basis that he’s ready for the NHL. There’s no question he’ll be in the lineup at the start of next season, but it’s safe to assume that he’ll get some run with the big club this year. The 13th-overall pick has 21 points in 17 games this season and is one of the most dominant players in the AHL. He already looks ready for the next level, and it’s only a matter of time.

Colton Dach

Another repeat name from last month. Dach is the Blackhawks’ most unique prospect at the moment because he’s the only power forward with a contract. With a solid showing offensively (15 points in 18 games), he’s rounding out his overall game nicely. Dach’s ascent to the NHL will be interesting – he could be brought up as a result of a strategy change, or if the team lacks physicality. Even if not, he’ll at least be brought up by the end of the season.

Landon Slaggert

Last month, I included Ethan Del Mastro on this list, and while he’s a high-upside prospect, another shutdown defenseman isn’t what the Blackhawks need this season. While Landon Slaggert doesn’t provide much more offense as a two-way forward, he’s a very polished prospect who would be one of the first names called if an injury or trade was to occur on the forward lines. He’s already been signed to a two-year extension, so it’s only a matter of time before he makes it to the next level full-time.
