Amy Adams' grounding presence — and brave honesty — resonates throughout “Nightbitch,” a story of how one woman experiences the shattering loneliness that comes with leaving work and staying home all day with her young son. Marielle Heller has adapted the novel by Rachel Yoder, which the author has said stems from her own malaise at that time in her life. Characters here are generically named — Mother, Son, Husband — but there is nothing generic about Adams' unique talents on display, writes Associated Press critic Jocelyn Noveck. Her performance, as a woman who believes she's actually turning into a dog, triumphs over an uneven script. In theaters Friday.
