Dustin Burrows won the job on Tuesday with the support of Democrats who favored him over a challenger backed by the GOP’s emboldened hard right. But the election deepened divisions within the GOP and Burrows could still lose influence in the coming months. For now, though, the outcome is a victory for the Texas GOP's shrinking establishment wing.
