How Baltimore is saving lives by offering young men resources when they put down the guns
Baltimore is seeing a sustained reduction in gun violence and city leaders believe investments in robust anti-violence efforts are finally paying off. Those efforts include the Group Violence Reduction Strategy launched in 2022, which combines targeted law enforcement with resources and social services. Authorities are looking to address the root causes of violence by offering young men a better path. That means job training, housing assistance, life coaching and more. Baltimore recorded 201 homicides in 2024. That was the lowest annual total in over a decade and a 23% reduction from the previous year, which also saw a 20% decrease from 2022.
