Chicago Bears Make Another Flurry Of Changes To Coaching Staff

Ben Johnson was one of the first head coaches hired during this cycle. However, it appears he is taking more time than anybody else to assemble his staff. Others who found jobs after him have already completed theirs. The Chicago Bears head coach is being much more methodical in his approach. He intends to make sure every hire is given the same amount of careful examination. While it may seem tedious, this is often a good way to get the best people you can on your staff. That work continued on Tuesday.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears have made three more moves to bring their staff closer to completion. Anthony Blevins, fresh off of a UFL championship with the Birmingham Stallions, joins the team as their assistant special teams coach. Kevin Koch received a promotion from defensive quality control coach to assistant linebackers coach. Perhaps the most important was Pierre Ngo receiving a promotion to become the team’s new strength and conditioning coach.

Johnson seems intent on building a staff that is high in energy and endurance, which fits with his grinder mentality. He’s wisely added several experienced veterans to provide guidance and leadership. Ngo has been with the Bears for the most part since 2015. He comes from the school of Rusty Jones, one of the top strength coaches in the league going back years. After several years spent learning the job, it feels like this was a great time for his opportunity. It is somewhat surprising the Chicago Bears didn’t look for outside help. Johnson must’ve liked what he heard when speaking with Ngo about the job. These moves might not be as high-profile as others, but they each carry weight. Hopefully, Johnson knows what he’s doing.
