At least 37 people have died after two buses collided on a rural roadway in southwest Bolivia. The accident on Saturday happened around 7:00 a.m. local time a few kilometers from the gateway town to the world’s largest salt flat of Uyuni. One of the buses was heading to a nearby Carnival celebration, police said. Images broadcast by local media showed police officers removing survivors from the wreckage. Bolivia’s roadways are some of the deadliest in the world and claim an average 1,400 fatalities every year.
