A Jesuit priest says he will rather go to prison than pay a fine of 500 euros or $541 for participating in a climate activists’ street blockade in the southern German city of Nuremberg. The Rev. Jörg Alt started serving his 25-day prison sentence on Tuesday. A court had convicted him in connection with a street blockade in 2022. Alt and about 40 other activists blocked the traffic in Nuremberg by gluing their hands to a city street to draw attention to global warming. Alt said he sees no alternative to serving in prison "because it’s the last form of protest I have left.”
