Law enforcement officers have fired shots at a vehicle that backed into a U.S. Coast Guard base in the San Francisco Bay Area that had been the site of protests against federal immigration agents. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security says the driver was wounded in the stomach Thursday night and was being held for a mental health evaluation. A bystander also sustained injuries and was treated at a hospital and released. The shooting happened at the base in Alameda, hours after President Donald Trump called off a planned surge of federal agents into San Francisco to quell crime.
