East Timor has been formally admitted into the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in the group’s first expansion since the 1990s. The formal admission of East Timor came at ASEAN's annual meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. On the sidelines, Cambodia and Thailand signed an expansion of a ceasefire that U.S. President Donald Trump helped broker this summer to end their border conflict. Trump called it a “momentous day."
