President Donald Trump has kicked off a busy day in Japan by meeting the country's new prime minister, Sanae Takaichi. Trump praised Takaichi, Japan's first female prime minister, and emphasized the strong U.S.-Japan alliance during their meeting Tuesday. Takaichi, in turn, highlighted their shared interests and announced gifts to the U.S. Trump is seeking $550 billion in Japanese investment as part of a trade agreement. Both leaders signed agreements to strengthen their alliance and secure critical minerals. Trump also was to address U.S. troops on an aircraft carrier near Tokyo. He plans to visit South Korea next for the APEC summit.
