A Syrian government-led committee has concluded that nearly all reported allegations of kidnapping of Alawite women are false. Interior Ministry spokesperson Noureddine al-Baba shared the findings on Sunday of a months-long probe into 42 claims during widespread violence in March. The violence began in coastal areas after armed groups attacked government forces, leading to sectarian revenge attacks. The committee, which found only one confirmed kidnapping case, found most cases involved women fleeing with partners, temporary absences, or false allegations. Amnesty International had reported credible claims of kidnappings and urged further investigation.
