Twins Hire Grady Sizemore From White Sox Coaching Staff

0

Despite reportedly being offered a role with the White Sox for next season, Grady Sizemore is leaving for a division rival.

The Minnesota Twins have hired Sizemore to be their outfielder and baserunning coach under new manager Derek Shelton. Sizmore will also serve as a first base coach.

The 43-year-old has spent the last two seasons with the White Sox coaching staff.  When Sizemore was initially brought into the White Sox organization, it was under the designation of “Major League Coach” in 2024.

However, the former three-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner took over as interim manager for 45 games after Pedro Grifol was dismissed, guiding the team to a 13–32 record and winning five of his final six games. This past season, he served as the White Sox’s offensive coordinator,  a role the organization did not have in 2024.

The White Sox did not renew the contracts of four coaches at the end of the season, but Sizmore was not one of them. He was reportedly offered a role with the organization for next season in a yet-to-be-determined role. Instead, he will join the Twins in a more expanded role.

Sizemore still stands as one of the great “what ifs” of his era. He was on a Hall of Fame trajectory before injuries took their toll. Between 2005 and 2008 with Cleveland, he hit .281 with 107 homers, 115 steals, and an .868 OPS (128 OPS+), while anchoring center field with Gold Glove caliber defense. Over those four years, he averaged more than 6 WAR per season, made three All-Star teams, and finished in the top 12 in AL MVP voting three times.
