Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Pablo Guanipa has been released after more than eight months in prison. His detention was widely seen as politically motivated. Guanipa, an ally of opposition figure María Corina Machado, was held in Caracas. His release comes as acting President Delcy Rodríguez faces pressure to free political prisoners. Guanipa was accused of participating in a "terrorist group" to boycott a legislative election. His brother called the arrest a crackdown on dissent. A prisoners’ rights group confirmed the release of 18 people on Sunday. The government is debating an amnesty bill that could free hundreds more.
