President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has carried out a surprise mini Cabinet reshuffle, replacing Turkey's justice and interior ministers. The Official Gazette announced Wednesday that Istanbul Chief Prosecutor Akin Gurlek will serve as justice minister. Mustafa Ciftci, governor of the eastern province of Erzurum, has been appointed interior minister. No official reason was given for the changes. The reshuffle comes as Turkey debates possible constitutional reforms and pursues a peace initiative with the Kurdistan Workers' Party. Gurlek’s appointment is controversial due to his role in high-profile trials against opposition members.
