Nepal heads into a crucial election with three main contenders, after youth protests shook the country’s politics last year and ousted former Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli. Millions of voters will go to the polls on March 5. They will elect the House of Representatives, and lawmakers then will pick the next prime minister. Kathmandu mayor Balendra Shah, known as Balen, is running as an anti-establishment figure, while Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa has promised a crackdown on corruption. Meanwhile, former prime minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli has is pointing to his experience in office as he argues Nepal needs stability.
