A new survey by The Allstate Foundation and Gallup suggests that young people do give back, even if their charitable works happen less formally and more sporadically. The report comes as nonprofits contend with an aging volunteer base whose participation levels are still rebounding from the pandemic. The survey finds that about 8 in 10 people between the ages of 12 and 25 have engaged in some form of community service or volunteering. Those who do volunteer say that making a difference was a “major reason” for their service. About half of respondents who report never volunteering tell Gallup that a lack of awareness and time prevented them from service.
