Earthquake near Chinese border felt in Almaty

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred on the border of Kyrgyzstan and China. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the tremors were registered on July 29 at 11:09 a.m. Astana time. The earthquake’s epicenter was located about 258 kilometers southeast of Almaty and 129 kilometers west of the Chinese city of Aksu.

Kazakhstan’s National Data Center, in turn, reported that the earthquake occurred at 11:10 a.m. Astana time. According to its data, the magnitude of the tremors was 4.7.
Kazakhstan’s Emergency Situations Ministry reported that the earthquake was registered at 11:09 a.m. Astana time by the network of seismic stations of the National Scientific Center for Seismological Research and Information LLP. According to the ministry, the epicenter was located 257 kilometers southeast of Almaty.
The estimated intensity in Almaty was 2 points. According to the Emergency Situations Ministry, no reports of casualties or damage have been received.
