Old-school roller skating in San Francisco church
David Miles, the Sk8father, has been roller skating in Golden Gate Park longer than most people have been walking. He has advocated for a place to skate in the park since Dianne Feinstein was mayor.
A few years ago, Miles and his wife, Rose, started a roller skating night at a church on Fillmore Street in San Francisco. Now the Church of 8 Wheels operates Fridays and Saturdays, with the Godfather’s Friday Night Roller Disco on Friday nights (for skaters ages 21 and older). Saturday features skate lessons and a family session during the day, and the adults-only Black Rock Roller Disco at night.
Good music is a sure thing on both days.
